Business Incubator Association of New York State
The Business Incubator Association of New York (BIA/NYS) is a nonprofit trade association established in late 2005. It is governed by a nine-member board of directors elected by the general membership. This professional membership organization brings together a community of engaged program leaders of incubators, accelerators and co-working spaces spanning all corners of New York State. This network of dedicated leaders works tirelessly to foster a dynamic, diverse, creative, and successful startup ecosystem spanning all corners of the state.
BIA/NYS maintains good programmatic relations with Empire State Development and NYSTAR.
Incubator staff training
Advocacy in Albany and DC on incubator issues
Statewide events for members’ incubated companies
BIA/NYS currently has more than 50 dues-paying organizational members that operate more than 90 distinct incubator facilities and virtual business incubation programs statewide.
This represents the great majority of the seriously active business incubators in the State and spans general purpose, technology microenterprise, and wet-lab bioscience facilities. Members include incubators associated with both public and private universities, regional nonprofit economic development organizations and for-profit incubators.
We are particularly interested in promoting pre-seed and seed-stage investing and exploiting the natural advantages of NYS as a gateway to global trade and commerce.
BIA/NYS is developing a multi-part legislative policy agenda, has established close working relations with the State’s seed-stage venture firms and angel investor community, and intends to find ways to highlight the importance of professionally managed business incubation as a way of de-risking private investment in the next wave of growth companies in New York State.
